Last weekend, the Minnesota Vikings led by their star quarterback Kirk Cousins went against and defeated the Carolina Panthers in their week 4 matchup of the ongoing NFL season. The Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson went off in the game against the Panthers and registered multiple receiving touchdowns. During one of those receiving TDs, Jefferson taunted his opponent, which resulted in him getting fined by the league.
During the final seconds of the third quarter, the Vikings were leading by one point and were facing a 2nd and 1 from the Panthers 31-yard line. Cousins, who received the snap from shotgun position, heaved the ball to his favorite target, Justin Jefferson, who climbed the ladders to complete the catch for a touchdown.
After completing the touchdown catch, Jefferson taunted the Panthers defensive back by hitting the “too little” celebration. Check out the footage of the cold celebration attached below.
A defensive penalty was called on the penalty, but Jefferson didn’t receive any penalty for the celebration. However, the league reviewed the celebration later and deemed it as unsportsmanlike conduct, resulting in the All-Pro pass catcher getting slapped with a $10,928 according to ESPN reporter Kevin Seifert.
Nonetheless, Justin Jefferson had a great outing on Sunday catching 6 passes for 85 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns while averaging 14.2 yards per reception. As a result, the Vikings ended up winning against the Carolina-based football team. It was Minnesota’s first victory of the ongoing season. With that victor, the defending NFC North champions improved to 1-3 and are now looking to go on a winning streak.
The Vikings’ 3-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Justin Jefferson getting fined a huge amount for his “too little” celebration against the Panthers enraged fans on social media. Fans believe players shouldn’t be fined for celebrating and called out the league for being “too soft.” Check out some of the reactions attached below.
In a similar incident, the Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs was also hit with a fine of more than $13,000. Diggs was fined for hitting the Stone Cold Steve Austin celebration by smashing two beer cans and throwing them into the crowd.
Nonetheless, Jefferson and the Vikings secured their first victory of the 2023 season against the Panthers last Sunday. Next, they will be facing the defending Super Bowl champions Kansas City Chiefs in their week 5 matchup this Sunday. Jefferson would look to continue his good form and help the Vikings to win their second consecutive game.
