Armor in Minecraft is varied and has many purposes, defence being the primary. the armor has many variation due to the materials they are made out from. However, there is one armor piece which is used primarily for a different task rather than pure defence.

Turtle Shells are items that can be obtained from turtles and are used as a helmet or in brewing potions.

The Turtles shells have various uses, but defence is not one of them! players can wear them in their Inventory Helmet slots. The helmet provides only a meagre 2 armor points. Although, this is on par with Iron Helmets, its other uses overshadow its armor!

Players need only one item to make a Turtle Shell, but it is not easily available. This is the Scute, which is only dropped by a Baby Turtle once it grows up to an Adult turtle. This is rare and players can make a Turtle farm to get a lot of it!

Players need:

Place the items in the Crafting Table in the manner shown above to make a Minecraft Turtle Shell.

Players can also repair a damaged Helmet inside an Anvil, by combining another Turtle Shell with it! Similarly, players can also use scutes to repair them.

Uses for Turtle Shells

The Turtle Shell in Minecraft can be equipped in the Helmet slot and provides the players with 2 armor points, which is similar to an Iron Helmet.

Players will also get Water Breathing Status effect for 10 seconds. This gives the players 10 extra seconds underwater.

They also have more durability than Iron and chainmail helmets!

Turtle Shells are also used in brewing the Potion of Turtle Master in the Brewing Stand. This increases defence immensely.
