City of Nampa announces additional closures to protect community against COVID-19
Boise, ID (CBS 2) — The Nampa Public Library and Nampa Senior Center will now be closed March 16-March 31, 2020, that's according to the city of Nampa.
Nampa Mayor Debbie Kling shared, “While these closures may be an inconvenience for some, they are for the protection of all in our community.”
For the safety of the staff and community, the Nampa Public Library will be closed March 16-31, 2020. Emails and phone calls will still be answered during this time. Books can be returned through the outside book drop, or checkout times can be extended. The Library staff will be looking at ways to continue serving the public during this closure, according to the city.
Officials with the city say that patrons are encouraged to access online resources to continue reading, listening or watching films during the closure.
These e-resources can be found at nampalibrary.org/elibrary and available 24/7.
The City of Nampa, with approval from the Nampa Council on Aging, will cancel on site meal service, senior classes, programs and events held at the Nampa Senior Center beginning Monday, March 16 and will be in effect until March 31.
Meals-to-go will be available through a curbside service beginning March 16.
Instructions for Curbside Meals: Please call (208) 467-7266 beginning at 7 a.m. March 16 to order (please call by 9:30 a.m.).
If the line is busy, please keep trying. Meals will be available for pickup Monday-Friday from 11:30am- 12:30pm for a suggested donation of $5 for those 60 and over, and a $6 charge for under 60, according to the city.
The city states that, "With the guidance and recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Southwest District Health, the Nampa Rec Center has made the determination to cancel all senior classes and senior programs at the Nampa Rec Center effective immediately through March 31, 2020."
Current senior classes that will be cancelled include:
Balance and Fall Prevention
Senior Strength & Tone
Zumba Gold
Senior Stretch
Gentle Yoga
Twinges
Aqua Motion
For the safety of Nampa Recreation Center patrons, the city has implemented several preventative steps and CDC recommendations to prevent illness associated with COVID-19.
According to the city, at this time, they have implemented the following processes:
The dry sauna and the steam room, located in the swimming pool area, will be closed until further notice.
The Nampa Recreation Center will promote social distancing. Exercise classes may have fewer participants allowed in each class. The number of participants allowed will be determined by class type and the size of the room. Participation will be on a first come basis.
Class participants will be required to clean and sanitize equipment before and after each class.
Cardio equipment will be spaced farther apart to accommodate social distancing. Some equipment will be moved or determined to be out of order.
Signage is posted asking people that are experiencing flu like symptoms, coughs or fever do not enter the Nampa Recreation Center. Patrons who are high risk or have immune deficiencies should avoid public spaces when possible.
According to the city, "While we encourage the participation of citizens in local government, in an effort to ensure the safety of those who will be attending the Nampa City Council meeting on March 16, 2020, we want to remind citizens of alternative means of participation."
Consider “attending” the meeting remotely by watching online at http://www.livestream.com/cityofnampa.
If you wish to participate in a public hearing, you may submit written or oral testimony to the Clerk’s office by emailing clerks@cityofnampa.us or calling (208) 468-5415. Please make sure you reference the public hearing agenda item and indicate whether you would like your comments read aloud or submitted in written form to council. Your written testimony will be given the same consideration and level of importance as the oral testimony you would provide at the City Council meeting.
If you feel your participation in the meeting necessitates your attendance on Monday night, please continue to take the precautions recommended by Southwest District Health and the Centers for Disease Control.
If you are experiencing any flu-like symptoms or have a fever, please do not attend out of respect for others. Rather, we encourage testimony via the Clerk’s office by emailing clerks@cityofnampa.us or calling (208) 468-5415.
"We apologize for the inconvenience and thank the community for understanding this precautionary measure. Our sincere intention is to protect the safety and well-being of all residents, and especially our senior population who are at increased risk for COVID-19, according to the CDC," Mayor Kling said, “We love our seniors and community, and want to do whatever we can to limit the exposure. Let’s do our part as a community to protect each other and our senior population.”
